This project explores how light can communicate emotion beyond facial expression, using colour, texture, and reflection to shape feeling. Working with two models, I captured contrasting emotions through lighting alone, showing how placement, tone, and diffusion can shift the mood entirely.
Experimenting with techniques such as long exposure, candlelight, reflections, and refractions, I created a dreamlike atmosphere that challenges the viewer to interpret rather than immediately understand. I used mirrors, glass, gels, and post-production editing to enhance these effects, studying how subtle changes in light direction and quality alter the entire visual tone.
This series became a study in theatrical emotion, discovering how lighting transforms space, guides perception, and builds atmosphere, much like in stage or film. It taught me how light’s placement on the performer doesn’t just illuminate, but defines the story being told.
